I am the host of an awards show in Britain. Ricky Cervais is co-hosting but has lost his voice: my American sense of humour seems to be going over the audience's heads, made up of well-to-do black tie celebrities, none of whom I recognize. Ricky pulls me aside and whispers 'Try speaking with a British accent!' This advice seems to work: introducing the next guest in an accent as having 'The nicest -- and cleanest! -- legs in the U.S.A.', the audience erupts in laughter. Martha Stewart then comes to the microphone and proceeds to do a bit surrounded by her 'servants' who are all wearing fake nose/moustache glasses, each screaming 'I'm an illegal Mexican!'. Suddenly a giant green pyramid laser show starts above the audience as Pink Floyd's 'Comfortably Numb' plays loudly. Ricky and I high five.
